River was out of Stormcage traveling with her vortex manipulator when she realized it had been a while since she had seen the Doctor. River thought she'd pop into the TARDIS for a fun surprise. The last time she was there she had synchronized her vortex manipulator with the TARDIS so she could lock on to it during the correct regeneration's time period. River set the coordinates for the TARDIS during the Doctor's 11th regeneration.
River appeared in the TARDIS looking around. Something seemed different but she couldn't quite figure out what. "Doctor?" River called out. "It's me, River. I came for a visit."
