I think Pink Pearlās situation came from a White Diamond scare tactic.
White Diamond has been depicted so far as a terrible mother figure(Fairy tale evil stepmom vibes all the way with this one), someone who as all this authority,has little to no compassion toward others,caring only about her own self -interests and appearances. Blue and Yellow Diamonds mentions of White have also had this distinct tone implying fear,most likely from some form of hostility or worse, full on abuse.
After the opening sequence fromĀ āTogether Aloneā, I think that Pinkās childish nature wasnāt actually a problem as long as she kept her nose clean and behavior in line with that of a high ranking Gem when needed. Blue and Yellow have been shown to be strict with Pink but ultimately they do care. The way Yellow smiles after Pink and PP have switched over to behaving like royalty from playing is what really solidifies the point for me since she is the strictest between Herself and Blue.
White Diamond is a different story. She saw Pink Diamond and her Pearl behaving in a way unbecoming of the Diamond authority,(playing,goofing around, and being a little to familiar) and wanted something done. Blue and Yellow most likely protected Pink from whatever White wanted to do to her or White knew she couldnāt take too drastic of measures with Blue and Yellow sticking up for Pink. She couldnāt get Pink to behave using her own methods but she could enlist Blue and Yellow to create a different ,less direct, method. A custom Pearl,one who was logical,intelligent and well-behaved to help steer Pink in the right direction. Pink Pearl was made for a Diamond so she couldn't go to waste ,could she?. White took her as her Pearl,and instead of simply teaching her or training her to serve a new Diamond,she sent a message.Ā
She wanted to make it clear the behavior she deemed inappropriate would not go unpunished. One way or another.Ā
I feel like this would explain why she was seemed awkward with our pearl even after having been with her for a thousand years before the Earth colony and Pearlās comment on not being able to make Pink happy. Plus the fact that whenever weāve seen Pink she has mentioned blue and Yellow several times but never White. And finallyĀ āRoseāsā comment on never wanting to go back to home world.
