24. Shopping (For Fun)
Clovis and Amber walked through the mall as they looked at the display windows of the stores. “So what are we looking for?” Amber asked with a tilt of her head. “Nothing in particular but some fun,” Clovis said surely. Amber raised a brow. “What?” “Of course. Nothing’s more fun than wandering aimlessly through the mall with a special someone. And we just buy what catches our eye if our money allows it,” he explained. “You’ve never done it like that?” “No time,” she responded. “And when I do come to the mall it’s for something I already have in mind to get.” “Aw but that means you miss out on all the new things the mall has to offer everyday. No worries, darlin’ I’ll show you how it’s really done,” Clovis said with a wink. Amber blushed slightly and nodded her head. Clovis took her hand and lead her into the first store they came across.
They browsed the racks of a clothing store as they looked for things that caught Amber’s interest. “Oh Amber, these seem just like you. Do you like any of them?” Clovis asked with a smile. “Well yeah of course, but my wallet doesn’t. Shopping at the mall is expensive you know,” she said. “Hey don’t worry about it. Since it’s your first free browse I’ve got you,” he said passively. “What? Oh no you don’t have to do that,” she said. “No really. I want to. I’ve gone on countless trips to the mall, I’ve got money to spare,” he assured. “Wha- how?” Amber stammered. “My parents do well for themselves. I guess you could say I’m a bit spoiled,” Clovis playfully chuckled. Amber smirked and shook her head. “Hm if you insist then fine. But I’ll buy you something in return later on,” she said. “Deal,” Clovis agreed. The two went around and picked things out off the racks. To be sure of what she got Amber would try them on in the dressing rooms and jokingly show them off to him. Clovis would look on at her with kind eyes and approving smiles. Once they went to pay he was sure to avert her eyes from the final total, much to her insistent disagreement. “I think that’s enough for me, Clovis. Thanks for all this,” she said as she held his arm. “Any time, darlin’,” He said surely. “Well now it’s your turn. Let’s see what they got,” Amber said as they entered another store.
The two looked around and browsed the store. Clovis was fast to pick out things he liked but had to be convinced to try them on by Amber. He made it a game as he came out of the dressing room each time with a different strut. His walk got playful and goofier with each item Amber had him try on which made her burst into laughter. They laughed together as they made their way to the check out. “Oh hold on! I still have to get you something,” Amber said as she glanced around. “Don’t worry about it, Amber. This trip was for you,” Clovis said with a shake of his head. “No Clovis, it’s only fair,” she insisted. They quickly payed for their items then went to another store which sold a variety of different items and merchandise. “How about.. something cute,” Amber said as she picked something from a small rack. She held a purple and white beaded bracelet that had the word “music” spelt out in the middle with each letter being its own bead. Clovis looked at it and smiled. “Yeah, I like it a lot,” he said surely. Amber smiled and quickly purchased it. She then put it on him herself as they looked at it. “Perfect,” they both said. “Now give me my bags I can carry them while you carry yours,” Amber said. “Nonsense. As your noble date I carry all the heavy bags,” Clovis proudly stated. “That’s ridiculous,” Amber said. “Fine, I’ll let you carry some.. if you can catch me!” He exclaimed as he ran off with their bags in hand. “Wait! Clovis you’re crazy!” Amber called as she ran after him.
