Dion had had the unfortunate displeasure of knowing that many bearers were being abused whilst they lived under the Sanbreque banner. It rarely happened when he present, but words carried. He had never agreed with the way they were treated, as their abilities were much sought after. Surely, in an ideal world, they would be appreciated for what they could do, but such was not the world they lived in.
Even so, to change the system would take time – but he secretly had such plans for when he was made Emperor. This did not mean that he would not act whenever such abuse took place right in front of him.
"Halt." He commanded, his voice carrying over the noise when he saw someone about to hit their bearer. He stepped forward, some of his dragoons trailing behind him.
"Great Greagor weeps to see any wrongs unpunished. Continue your abuse and I will have your rights to own bearers stripped from you." It was hardly a satisfying enough punishment, but it was the most effective in situations like these.
The man he had stopped huffed angrily and hissed out that the bearer he had just bought refused to speak a word – and if the great Bahamut so wished to step in, then he could take the bearer off his hands. Dion did not get a word in before the man had left, thus leaving the bearer with him.
"..." Dion rarely felt this speechless – and he had no interest in being the owner of a bearer. Even so, he knew the young man would only face more abuse in someone else's hands.
"To bear witness to such crudeness... No matter. You are my responsibility now and I have no need of a bearer. I will thus train you to become a dragoon. Do you understand?" He turned to address the bearer, hoping the words would bring some comfort.
"I would also like to know of your name. If you cannot say it, perhaps you could write it for me?" He waved over one of his dragoons, who quickly provided the bearer with a pen and some parchment.
