My mind's playing tricks on me again.

I keep thinking that the shadows are after me,

Stalking my every move,

Like a lioness would do her prey.

Watching.

Waiting.

Stalking me.

Blending in so well

That you wonder if that glimpse of eyes you saw was all in your head,

Or if it was real.

If the whispers are actually there,

Or if it's the wind.

I wish I'm invisible but I'm not.

I wish I could sneak away from them to cry.

Then it wouldn't be so pathetic when I run.

Then they wouldn't get to tease me as I go,

their taunts whistling through the air,

piercing me like an arrow.

Like I have target on my back.

A target for people to throw words as small yet stingy as pebbles

Or as big and painful as stones you have to carry with both hands.

Because I need both hands to protect me from your stones,

Your arrows,

I shriek into the silence, shattering it

Until you find pieces of me coming back

My pain haunting you

Even from miles away
