this has got to be my favorite frame in all of utena. the fact that she Said a Bad Word. the fact that she just full on decked mikage in the most intense physical violence in the show since nanami trying to kill her with the knife. the character implications of utena lashing out against someone who threatens the memory she built her whole identity upon-the memory that's the only thing keeping her alive, clutched so tightly it's stained and fraying at the edges with large chunks missing. most importantly the fact that you can clearly see the photos of duelists we'd been shown previously have visibly been replaced with photos of the production crew. amazing. 11/10.
wait so is it true that if you have lost any recruits in chapter 3, tenna Literally Dies? that's hilariously jarring compared to the way the rest of the game handles it.
in chapter 1, if you fight anybody, you just get a slightly different ending cutscene. in chapter 2, queen is a bit sad that not all her subjects are in castle town with her.
in chapter 3, if you take the easy way out once, your new special little guy actually dies
no shade to kris x anyone shippers but the fact that pretty much every "romantic" scene they have with others is somehow forced or otherwise made uncomfortable (the secret scene with the "real" game when game!kris tries to stab real susie and real kris pulls her back, the ralsei hugs in chapters 1 & 2, the Entire Weird Route, etc.) feels very meaningful to me.
esp. wrt deltarune's themes around questioning narrative expectations and the idea that "this happens because this is the sort of story where it will", including romance as one of the things that stories just Have which is being called into question is very resonant to me as an aroace person.
(also just to preempt the "kris blushes during these scenes" argument: you've never blushed because you were embarrassed? you've never been embarrassed to look silly in front of someone you platonically admire?)
