The Maiden wandered through the dying town in the heart of Mistral, despondently clutching at a deep wound on her arm. All her power, the cool, soothing power of the Winter, could not pacify the hideous beasts that had been bearing down on this town for weeks now, ever since she’d first received the call for help from a messenger who used their Semblance to run with the speed of lightning. Even when used as a weapon, she found herself defeated by these Grimm.
Those who hadn’t run by now were either dead or barricaded in their own homes. Whether the remaining townsfolk now hated her, or still believed that she would be victorious, or had forgotten she existed, Salem didn’t know. Hell, she barely knew her own name at this point. All she knew was that she wasn’t strong enough, even with the power that had served her so well. She limped into the house that the townsfolk had loaned her while she warded off the Grimm tides, and made her way into the bedroom at the back.
She expected to die soon; she didn’t expect Death to proactively come for her, she thought to herself as she stared grimly at the dark figure staring at the carnage from the window. She forced another wave of cooling magic on her wound to ease the pain just long enough for her to say,
“If you’re hurt, or hiding, this room isn’t safe... Please, move to the kitchen; there’s a trapdoor that leads to a bunker, where the Grimm can’t find you.”
