Clone Bean question, that I can’t remember if you’ve answered or not already… So, several of the trooper beans do have hair on their heads, and in the case of Wolffe Bean, can make himself floofy. So my question is, are the beans covered in a light fuzz like a peach on the rest of their bodies, or hairless? I’ve been imagining them with a light fuzz like peaches.
I've been sitting on this for a while, which I am sorry for.
The question just left me stumped because I am genuinely not sure.
The way I see it, the Trooper Beans have this mochi-like quality to them both consistency and texture wise, which is not exactly naked skin but also not peach fuzz.
More like, a powdery doughy softness but without the powder?
It's hard to explain through words, they just have this texture to them that's unique yet not completely unnatural to the touch (which is fitting since they need to be handled).
Maybe it's a matter of it varying between certain Beans?
Like how Wolffe Bean just naturally would have peach fuzz because he can grow fur, versus the scuba trooper beans having bare skin like little frogs to better suit their needs in an aquatic environment...
Some things about these critters, not even I know...

Is it Really Self-Hatred When You’re No Longer You?
How come the batch’s beans never told their troopers about Omega? Also which beans are the most meticulous about their appearance?
That's because she asked them not to.
While Omega wanted to meet them for the longest time, she had to spend a lot of time observing them from afar due to not having all that much leeway with Nala Se.
It took her earning some freedom over the years for her to get the chance to actually meet them without risk of punishment/discipline.
As such, it was in everyone's best interest to keep her existence a secret. Even if the Beans wanted to tell their troopers.
As for the most meticulous with their appearance...
That's Kix Bean and Fives Bean who are extremely vain due to that particular trait being exaggerated in them (Kix and Fives are, after all, very particular about their appearance in their own way). Tup Bean used to also care about his appearance, but stopped preening as much as he used to when he was affected by Tup's partial reconditioning.
Kind of hard to care when he's trying to figure out his new situation...
Who made Hunter Bean’s bandana and Tech Bean’s goggles? Would Echo Bean get something to help him walk since he’s missing a limb?
Do the batch’s beans accept hugs and pets?
It was Wrecker who made Hunter Bean his little bandanna, and later Omega found a tiny skull shaped button that she added to it to better match Hunter.
Tech Bean's goggles were a joint effort between Tech and Crosshair, with Crosshair creating molds for them, and Tech casting and assembling them.
Echo and Fives have both tried to make a variety of little prosthetics for Echo Bean to help him get around more easily, but the little fella doesn't seem to like the feel of them at all. So much so that he'd get frustrated and destroy them to make a point.
It seems he has no real issue walking on three nubs.
The CF99 Beans adore physical contact! They're very cuddly, which comes in handy when they have a rowdy bunch of commandos with trust issues to deal with. Their mellow nature and friendliness was a much needed staple of their short childhood.
And Wrecker Bean even has a habit of making himself bigger just to hug people.
Hi! Sorry if you’ve already received these questions before, but how do the Bad Batch’s beans work? Do they have special abilities? Or they ostracized by their fellow beans like the batch are (technically) with other clones? Does Omega have a bean? Does Wrecker’s bean have its own mini Lula?
Hello there! It's been a while since I've gotten or answered any Clone Beans asks (what with me getting busy with AF and all).
How exciting to pick this silly little AU back up again!
Anyway, onto the questions themselves...
---
How do the Bad Batch’s beans work?
Clone Force 99's Beans are like any other Trooper Beans, with the minor difference that they manifested with the abilities their troopers were decanted with.
Unlike most Beans who develop special abilities later in life to better help out in or out of the field (once their own troopers either acquire an affinity towards some kind of specialization or role, or even undergo ARC Training), the CF99 Beans basically served as a means to help their respective troopers deal with their mutations while they were inexperienced cadets. (Ex: Hunter Bean took the brunt of the force of Hunter's migraines.)
This means that as each member of CF99 began to better grasp the extent of their enhancements and limitations, the less their Beans had to compensate for the negative side-effects that these mutations unfortunately caused (migraines, chronic muscle pain, photo-sensitivity, sensory overload, chronic insomnia, etc...).
They are essentially in more of a support role than most Beans, who either act as more of an exaggeration of their Trooper's personality or serve as an outlet of sorts for emotional turmoil.
Funnily enough, this means CF99's Beans are some of the kindest, most responsible and more subdued Beans out there. Which is a massive contrast to the absolute chaos that is their squad of clone commandos.
Do they have special abilities?
Each of the CF99 Beans have an ability that corresponds with their respective trooper's mutations. It was easier to help them, after all, if the little Beans could actually match them.
Curiously, as the squad of commandos gained a better grasp of their respective mutations, their Beans seemed to have slowly adapted their abilities in ways that match how to best help them utilize them.
Hunter Bean - Electromagnetic Sensitivity & Heightened Senses (Aside from alleviating Hunter's migraines by taking them on himself, Hunter Bean also helps him via procuring secure locations where the sergeant can hole up away from overwhelming stimuli, and is also excellent at tracking and baiting out burrowing critters if they need to hunt their own meals while on missions)
Tech Bean - Enhanced Intellect & Speech (During their youth Tech Bean often perused the Kaminoan Archives and Databanks during curfew to satisfy Tech's growing hunger for knowledge, he has thus become the go to Intel gatherer for CF99 since his intellect matches Tech's to a T but he's relatively harder to detect)
Wrecker Bean - Super Strength & Enhanced Durability (Having been the first of the CF99 Beans to forcefully adapt his abilities to better fit his trooper's training regiment, Wrecker Bean is one of very few Trooper Beans who isn't a Vestige who can alter his body mass to make himself bigger... Although more often than not he uses this to dispense much needed bear hugs)
Crosshair Bean - Enhanced Eyesight & Thermal Vision (Always attentive and observant, Crosshair Bean has been a staple of CF99's sniper's entire life by not only serving as a trusty lookout and appraiser, but his most trusted confidant as well)
Omega Bean - N/A (She's too young to have an ability just yet, but much like Omega she seems to have a knack for mimicry that may develop into an actual power)
Are they ostracized by their fellow beans like the batch are (technically) with other clones?
Nope! Trooper Beans are inherently social creatures that value the company of each other just as they value the company of their troopers. To them (unless it's a Vestige, although they can't really help it) a Bean is a Bean! And, since the CF99 Beans are actually much mellower in nature than their oddball squad, they're less likely to pick fights with other Beans.
They're social butterflies, and also very aware of the fact their Troopers aren't exactly eager to be making friends outside of their own group due to a few past incidents. Naturally their Beans are not too pleased with this, as they really don't want their troopers to just write off other clones as being untrustworthy just because of one or two groups they had a spat with over something silly...
Does Omega have a bean?
Yep! I could be all cliche about it and say Omega Bean was her only friend growing up, but that's not true at all.
After all the CF99 Beans had been befriended by her long before their respective troopers became aware of her presence.
Perks of roaming the ventilation shafts of Kamino!
You meet a lot of friendly faces!
Does Wrecker’s bean have its own mini Lula?
Yes! Her name is Bula and she was Wrecker's very first project when he took up learning proper sewing so that he'd be able to repair Lula whenever she got warn out or ripped.
She's a bit atrocious but very durable... Wrecker Bean loves her to bits!

Summary: Fives knows there are limits to what he can and can't do, which is what ultimately makes him a good man.
Warning: Mentions of attempted suicide!
[Something to wrap up both Fleeting Memory and Is it Really Self-Hatred When You're No Longer You?. With how I set up the previous drabbles, it was only inevitable that something really bad had to happen before things could get any better. Thankfully, Fives is nothing if not a good brother that understands when he's severely outgunned.]
---
Ultimately, it's both denial and the heavy weight of remorse that sends things careening into the precipice of disaster.
Of course Fives had known right off the bat that things were never going to be the same once he'd rescued Tup, '22 and '16 (mostly because at the time of said rescue, he was considered a fugitive of the law). But never could he have foretold things going quite as badly as they unfortunately did...
Because not even ARC training could throw you for such a curve-ball.
It especially hadn't prepared him or his fellow troopers for an issue where things couldn't be resolved with some sound logic, quick thinking, and (if push come to shove) a little bit of brute force.
But, at the very least, Fives was more than capable of recognizing when he was outmatched.
You wouldn't be able to tell if you knew of him only through whatever it was his brothers sang about him in 79's, at the peak of the night, when their courage was high and the pain of speaking of Umbara was more than dulled.
He'd risked it all then. He'd risked even more when he'd found out about the chips. Hells he would risk what little remained once he became a PI... But, as confident as he was in his own abilities, Fives wasn't stupid enough to think he was immortal. Or, at the very least, he wasn't incapable of learning from his mistakes.
The warehouse had been enough of a close call.
Sure being drugged out of his mind could excuse the incident a little, but he'd still made a terrible decision that he'd only escaped from because Fox had quite literally been dying when he'd taken the shot.
From there on out, he vowed to play it safer. Which is what he'd decided to do when things with Tup and '22 finally came to a head.
In hindsight, he should have done something the moment he realized Tup was clinging to the past too tightly. The younger trooper so afraid of his now faulty memory, that he'd latched onto '22 and refused to see anyone but Dogma. Refused to acknowledge that what he was doing was extremely harmful to both himself, and the brother he was trying to reshape into the memory of a lost vod.
Regretfully, Fives hadn't acted immediately. Had turned a blind eye and endured long nights of whispered secrets that broke his heart in twain. Hoped that his own understanding of such all-consuming loss, would give him the power to help Tup come to terms with this whole ordeal in some way...
What he'd ended up doing was enabling Tup into becoming hyper-fixated on the sense of loss. Let him reminisce so much about Dogma, that soon enough that was all that the bereaved man could talk about at all. And the more he pushed this topic, the more Fives noticed '22's gaze darken whenever he was in their company.
The distance between them on the couch during his accompanied study sessions, growing more lengthy and noticeable by the day...
And then when Echo had been found, things had only gotten worse.
Tup stopped talking to him. Stopped confiding as much as he used to. Eyes equal parts sad and angry as he watched the two of them from afar. He was no Jedi, but Fives could practically sense the growing jealousy in his vod'ika... Just as he could sense the resentment building up in '22.
He'd been at a loss for what to do. Caught up between wanting to watch over his recovering twin, studying to help the vode, and trying to resolve the rising tension between Tup and '22.
There was a huge problem, and Fives hadn't known how to fix it...
So he found someone that could.
The call to Cody came at a stupidly lucky time.
While Fives spent most of his days on Coruscant resting and studying, the commander still spent his out in the frontlines with general Kenobi and his men. Tying up loose ends that not even the defeat of Palpatine could quite bring a conclusion to (at least not a speedy one).
When he'd finally gotten a hold of the man, he'd practically just awoken from a post-landing nap, and he'd graciously let Fives explain the situation to him over comms while he made himself a caf.
If anyone could offer some sympathy over this impromptu venting session, it was certainly Cody. He'd taken in '16 after Fives had brought him, Tup and '22 to Coruscant. Said something along the lines of feeling personally responsible for him, and that the man's Bean deserved to know what happened to him in the end...
Last he'd checked with Kix (the medics's network often kept a tight lip on this sort of thing, but they weren't opposed to passing on positive news when they could), '16 was apparently thriving. The 212th's medical team had reported a considerable decrease in self-destructive behavior.
And the ARC had been just about to ask for advice on how to improve things for '22 when all hell broke loose.
Tup Bean had run to him screaming. Wailing and just about tripping himself up, as he unintentionally lost control of his little body which flopped like wet spaghetti as it extended and twisted in odd spirally shapes. Completely bent out of shape. Something had gone wrong and the little guy had come to him for help.
Fives only managed to understand "Two Two" and "Roof" before he found himself sprinting and asking the Commander for backup.
Unfortunate as it was to admit, it wouldn't be the first time that a brother had done something like this. He just hadn't thought '22 was so unhappy that he'd choose to end his own life. He could have never imagined things had been at that low of a point for him.
And perhaps that was a fault in himself that he desperately needed to sort out once he was sure no one ended up dead on his watch.
When he got to the roof, Cody was already there. The 212th had the upper-floors of the barracks to themselves on the north wing of the GAR headquarters. It wouldn't surprise him in the slightest if he'd simply jumped out of an open window and climbed all the way to the south wing in an impressive display of physical prowess.
Fives watched them quietly from the stairs, ready to act if need be (although he doubted anything was going to happen from that point onward). Mostly, he just stood there and felt useless as he watched the commander speak to '22 in a way none of the 501st had.
With his own personal experience of what it was the younger man was going through.
Once upon a time he'd been Coh, the little CC terror that had been so difficult to handle that the Kaminoans had tried to do something about it. Once upon a time his own brothers and refused to engage with him, because he wasn't Coh anymore and they hadn't know how to deal with that.
He understood how much it hurt for someone to look at him, while clearly searching for someone else.
Not too far from the two sat their respective beans. DB looked frazzled as he watched the two troopers interact, while Coh fussed over him like a mother tooka fussed over its young. Nipping at stray strands of hair and smoothing them back over, with a few quick licks and a few pats with his nubs.
In the last couple of weeks DB had grown more aggressive towards Tup. Biting at his fingers in warning and putting himself in between the two as much as he could with his diminutive little body.
He had also sat on Fives's datapads and hardcovers. Staring up expectantly while trying to stall his reading. Had clearly seemed to expect better of him and everyone else in regards to the whole situation, and shown that he was still more than capable of holding a grudge against anyone that so much as looked at '22 the wrong way.
Despite the loss of his trooper (of their deep connection) and the changes it had caused in him, DB had still done what he thought was best for '22's sake. Extending kindness and never once asking for anything in return. Hells, the little guy still vanished into the vents instead of sticking too close to his new shaky friend.
Fives should have known that the little guy was trying to show them how to do right by their brother. Show them that, even in the face of pain as strong as the loss of a loved one, that respecting the fact he and Dogma were different people was ultimately the right thing to do. Something they'd failed to do repeatedly until it finally pushed him over the brink.
And now there was just no going back.
Perhaps among the 212th there might be a chance for '22 to get back on his feet. The support network that would be available to him did, after all, have at least one person that had first-hand experience with just how hard it was to rebuild one's self after a recon.
And '16's presence and progress might reassure '22 that he wouldn't just be cast aside and left to rot. That he wouldn't be stuck listening to others wishing so terribly loudly for the impossible. That he wasn't a burden or a lost cause.
Ultimately, Fives decides it's the better option. So he doesn't protest when '22 agrees to go with Cody. He also understands perfectly when the shaky vod declines to give Tup a chance to apologize or say goodbye. After what transpired, it just wasn't a good idea for them to see each other for a while. Not while they were both in such a vulnerable state...
Not that explaining that to Tup after Fives rescued him from a locked closet would be any easier. If anything, his vod'ika might refuse to talk to him for some time. But that was fine. Tup might need some time to actually think about some things instead of remaining in denial and chasing after a ghost.
That said... He might need to have a word with the medics and push for some measures to be put in place. They'd gotten comfortable going into the Jedi Halls of Healing recently. Maybe they knew a mind-healer that specialized in this sort of thing?
The long-haired trooper would certainly benefit from something like that.
Is it Really Self-Hatred When You're No Longer You?
Summary: '22 is a resentful man.
Warning: Mentions of suicidal thoughts!
[The counterpart fic to Fleeting Memory. Where Tup is struggling to deal with his grief and feelings of inadequacy, '22 has to deal with everyone else's guilt and their desire for him to "heal" and become Dogma once more. As you can imagine, this has a rather negative effect on him...]
---
Inevitably, '22 begins to resent Dogma.
It's not something he can help but to do. Not when everyone looks to him and wishes with all their might that, by some miracle, '22 would just seize to be and their lost brother was returned to them.
And this is not mere speculation on his part. He's heard the whispers behind closed doors. Listened to every single word that slipped from the lips of clones that thought him too inept to understand that he wasn't wanted. That they only allowed him to stay out of pity.
He's watched from the shadows (a strange hollow feeling in his chest) as Tup asked Fives whether or not it was selfish of him, that he wanted Dogma to have truly been killed instead of being turned into '22. If it was cruel to wish for his brother to be at peace, instead of being forced to roam the halls as something lesser than a man.
Tup's words are always the ones that hurt the most.
Despite the growing annoyance (and burning hatred), he never confronts anyone about it. '22 much prefers to avoid conflict when given the choice. On Kamino peace and quiet had been just about the only luxuries he'd ever gotten. Rewards for being an agreeable little pawn that did whatever its masters told it to do without complaint.
If he didn't fight... If he didn't scream...
If he did his tasks with the utmost efficiency...
The lab existed as an alternative to the dismantling and repurposing of defective units. It wasn't the better alternative, mind you, as reeducation was simply not an exact science. But it was certainly less messy in a more physical sense.
Clones who were not up to par in the field could be remade anew for a purpose that better served them.
Temperament issues, speech impediments, disobedience, independence... Those were symptoms of mental deficiencies that the lab could "fix".
Ultimately, Dogma had been defective. Disobedient in a murderous degree. Killed a superior officer (a Jedi no less), and then been sent away and never inquired after ever again.
The 501st hadn't cared when they thought he was still alive and well. So why did they now, when '22 had taken his place? When they'd been shown the results of the Kaminoan's "corrective efforts"?
He's heard what the medic with the incision tattoos had to say.
How they ranted and raved with unrestrained fury that everyone was being a disgusting hypocrite. How none of them had actually liked Dogma prior to learning about the reconditioning. And yet, suddenly, everyone and their brother was crying gryzard tears over a vod they had often compared to a rupturing appendix.
The medic's honesty and outrage had been just about the only thing that had comforted '22. If just because at least someone (other than the little black and white critter that stared at him with understanding yellow eyes) didn't expect the impossible from him.
Dogma was gone and '22 had ownership of this body now.
It was never his intention to resent Dogma.
Anger, hatred and other heart-rate raising emotions were, quite frankly, counterproductive things that only caused trouble.
Placidity and amicability were qualities that should be striven for. Especially if they made your chest hurt less, and your eyes and nose stop burning. What use was there to hate a dead man anyway?
Crying over something outside of his control was never pleasant.
It made the headaches and the tremors worse. And then he'd vomit and the sour taste would remind him of all the times he'd nearly aspirated, during one of the many tests he was subjected to on Kamino.
Sour and salty things make him shudder and gag violently.
The smell of cheese alone makes him lock his jaw on instinct.
All his foods have to be coated in copious amounts of sweet sauces or other artificial sugars, for him to be able to choke them down.
'22 hates that everyone keeps giving him cheese when it clearly distresses him. Because it was Dogma's favorite. He always gives their offerings to DB instead, who eagerly eats them and then nuzzles his fingers gratefully in return (the little Bean is his only true friend).
Intentional or not, resenting Dogma comes naturally.
And it's not even his fault. It's everyone else's and their single-minded insistence on trying to push him to become someone he's not.
With every comparison, every inquiry over memories or inside jokes he's not privy to, every attempt to tease him over a quality he does not possess, every single interaction where no one sees him for who he is... The burning in his chest increases.
And as time passes, his resentment of Dogma extends to Tup as well.
Tup who consistently torments '22 with the futile hope that his "actual brother" will one day return to him. Tup who is a despicable terrible man who dragged '22 out of the only place that ever made sense to him. Tup who he fantasizes about smothering with a pillow in the night so as to put an end to the perpetual misery.
He can never bring himself to do it, even when he knows he's the only one awake. The only person currently looming over the more tangible object of their ire, with clenched fists, gritting teeth, and a cold horrid burn in his withering heart.
Instead he always finds his way up onto the roof and sits on the ledge overlooking the cityscape.
Trying to desperately stamp out the wickedness that overtakes him, whenever his head gets too full of the buzzing anguish that comes with wanting someone he hates to love him just as much as he clearly loved Dogma...
One of these days he might just jump.
It'd be easier after all, if he were simply dead.
At the very least easier than pretending anyone might ever come to love '22, when all he was is a reminder of someone they apparently hadn't even liked all that much if they'd let Kamino spirit him away into nothingness...
Well, someone that isn't DB and the maintenance droids at least.
The little Bean and his mouse droid friends seem to be the only beings in this galaxy that give a damn about '22's well being.
They're the only thing keeping him from doing more than just sitting at the precipice of his demise.
And, pragmatic as ever, '22 considers that to be enough for now.
