Honestly, society uses “love” as an umbrella term for a lot of emotions that really shouldn’t be lumped together. I definitely believe in infatuation at first sight, because that is a thing. But deep, earnest care for a person takes a little longer to develop, and often grows alongside of or in some cases eventually replaces infatuation in relationships. This is not to say that there aren’t individuals who don’t follow the typical model, as any relationship can move through the different types of love freely (supported by Robert Sternberg’s work on the triangular theory of love.) People are all super different in the way they form relationships, so it’s hard to answer this question without first defining what you mean by “love,” and if the question is meant to address humans as a whole or a particular individual. In my case, I can feel strong physiochemical attraction almost instantly, but actual passion (to use Dr Sternberg’s terms) takes me longer than usual to develop.
