Nothing makes Shea feel quite so small as looking up at the stars, seeing their bright brilliance from who knows how far away. There were too many to count; he’d tried several times. Wada told him the stars were the lives lost over the years, shining light as they looked down on their descendants. The brightest stars were the strongest warriors, the kindest healers, the bravest warriors, and so forth.
“One day, Wada, I will be among the stars.”
