I do think Clockwork and Lexi would be quite toxic together, to be honest, for a few reasons. They both have pretty deep-rooted trauma and deal with it in completely different ways. But what they do share (at least in my AU) is pretty poor communication skills. Lexi shuts down and pretends she doesn't give a gaf when she really does, whereas Clockwork will only push the more someone pulls, and will be very, angrily vocal about it.
Which, as we know, is the very opposite of what Lexi needs. For her to trust someone, she needs a lot of patience. Which Clockwork doesn't have much of, even for her partner.
But they would work in other aspects too. They're both very loyal and self-sacrificing, and in the rare moments where they drop their egos and are transparent, I think they'd be very raw and affectionate with one another. Which for both of them, would make up for all the arguments.
That is, if we ignore the fact that Clockwork willingly kills people, which is a huge no in Lexi's book. Although I could see Lexi possibly gaining unwanted feelings, regardless of how much she fights against it, which could be possible considering she would be quite desensitised to murder (as much as she opposes it).
