âHow did this even happen...?â Hanbei whined to himself, raising his head cautiously to peer through the window.
Demons trudged through the muddied roads in droves, stubbornly searching for their prey. Theyâd been there for at least half an hour already and were refusing to move on. Hanbei sighed, lowering himself back to the dirt floor, leaning weakly against the wall where he sat.
âMy strategy went off without a hitch. I donât understand where it could have suddenly gone so wrong.â He uttered thoughtfully, frowning at his feet.
Stuck in an abandoned farming village, in an empty house, surrounded by demons and with no way to contact his allies; his circumstances were far from ideal. The only reason they were even out here was to investigate a potential new ally that had been spotted in the area, but theyâd had no luck finding them. The rest of Hanbeiâs company were probably still out looking for him, but heâd been forced to stray far from their temporary post of operations in a bid to shake off the enemy.
So much for that. At least the demons had already given up on searching the house; heâd managed to squeeze himself into the tiny gap behind a pile of firewood until theyâd lost interest.
Hanbei contemplated his few options. His weapon was busted, so he certainly couldnât fly out of there. He could make a run for it, but he didnât like his chances. Physical prowess was not his strong point- theyâd probably catch him instantly.
He scowled. Maybe he really would have to wait it out until they left. He settled down into a more comfortable position against the wall, but it wasnât long before his eyelids began to droop, and heâd fallen dead asleep from exhaustion.Â
He wouldnât wake up until two hours later.
