“Well, crap, I can’t exactly show up looking like this mess before I get my reward…”

He’d gotten injured several times during the course of the quest he’d taken, and was now secretly regretting not picking up a healing skill or two—or several—so that he could patch himself up whenever incidents like this happened. Even if he could patch himself up and be on his way, there was still something different about injuries healing naturally as opposed to quickly patching them up with magic.

“Ow, ow, oh crap…” he hissed, being very careful not to put too much pressure on his injured leg as he hobbled forward. Triggering that trap was a huge mistake on my part. Why was I not careful?! He thought angrily to himself. Half-elf he may be, he wasn’t immortal or impervious to injuries—not by a long shot. Not at all.

His breath came out in a painful hiss as he continued to force himself forward. Where the hell was the nearest temple he could go to and at least take a rest, at least for a little while? The pain in his leg was bothering him, as were the various cuts and injuries he had scattered all over his body.

I shouldn’t have done that, stupid mistake… very stupid mistake… but I really needed to figure out the secret of that room! Oww… maybe I shouldn’t go alone the next time… but I can’t trust anyone too easily… what if they turn around and stab me in the back like the last time I trusted someone… he thought to himself as he lost his balance and fell forward on the dusty ground.

He didn’t know how far he’d walked in that state, but now was a pretty good time to stop walking and take a rest. Preferably with his eyes closed.
