☤ — a memory of death/loss
Lahan
I sat by her hospital bed, staring at her limp body. She turned to face me with a smile. I searched her eyes but I saw no regret, no hatred. She reached over and held onto my hand. “I knew I wasn’t going to survive” she smiled at me but I was expressionless. “I’d expect nothing more from you. You never could show any other emotion but a happy smile, or just nothing at all, could you?” It was quiet again. She turned her head, looking forward. “I am sorry..” Her eyebrows were now furrowed, she squeezed my hand a bit. “Why are you apologizing? You’re giving my soul relief. Lahan, you are not the cause of my death. I am ready to accept my fate.” I stood up, staring into her eyes. She smiled at me once again, “We will meet again Lahan.. please wait for me..” and with a swing of my scythe, the room became deadly silent again.

I was swimming in the ocean when I saw a ship out at sea for the first time. I was overjoyed, seeing that I’d be able to meet the humans that viewed this as their second home, like myself. I swam towards it, looking above the water. I touched the lower half of the boat, gliding my fingers on its course surface, staring in awe before I felt a sharp pain in my back. A rope was swung over the boat, hooking around my body and I was pulled up out of the water, thrown onto the ship’s floor. The laughter of the men were loud and continuous. One grabbed me by the neck, lifting me off the floor, “Looks like we’ve got a nice catch, to think we’d find a boy out here at sea, with scales on his body! Just goes to show there really are some freaky things living in these waters!” I attempted to pry his hand off my neck but he tightened his grip. “Maybe we can sell him, hopefully he doesn’t bleed to death” another added. Their mocking laughter commenced when suddenly a loud ear piercing screech, a roar even, was heard. “What was that?” one of the men questioned, but the others were unable to answer. The man let me go and I fell to the floor again, turning my head towards the water. It was then I knew she was here.A large serpent-like creature rose from the waters, using its tail to smash the boat into pieces. The men attempted to swim away but its body movements caused strong currents to form, drowning them one by one. Tears began to stream down my face as I floated in the water, it lowered itself, allowing me to climb onto its head. “It’s okay Su, don’t cry. Mama’s here now.” I came to a realization that day, not all humans were to be trusted– in fact, maybe all of them were secretly our enemies.
✤ — a memory that involves romance/love

She was looking at the cake through the cake shop window, she pressed her face against the glass, mesmerized by all the desserts. She turned away, almost tearing up, “Control yourself! Money does not rain from the sky, you’ll regret it later anyway!” she exclaimed, smacking both cheeks twice. I stared at the shop, slowly walking in. “Lahan..?” she followed me inside, awaiting an answer from me. “What would you like..?” I asked as her face lit up. She pointed excitedly to a chocolate covered blueberry cheesecake. The lady behind the counter packaged a piece of it up, handing it to her. We sat inside the cake shop and she began to devour it almost immediately. I stared outside the shop until I saw a fork with a piece of cake on it make its way towards my mouth in the corner of my eye. I looked at her smiling up at me, “Come on, give it a try! Blueberries are really good you know~.” I accepted the piece, chewing slowly and I could confirm that she was very right about that statement. She finished the last of the cake, grinning widely. “Thank you so much Lahan! It was really good, this is why we’re best friends, you always try to make me happy. I can’t help but to love you~!” I stared at her, smiling soon after, “I love you too..?” I still didn’t understand emotions very well, but I knew I felt something. It might’ve meant close to nothing to her, but it was something I’d want to remember forever. She was my only friend, the one I cherished most.

There was a rain spirit that walked by my lake once. She was beautiful, but she never smiled. Every time she came it rained. It became a routine for her to sit by the lake at nights, looking up at the moon and stars but not saying a word. The rain would sometimes last for hours as long as she was in a close range to the lake. I finally decided to confront her about her reason behind doing this. I held myself accountable for condemning her, but it wasn’t her fault, she wasn’t able to control it. We grew closer and years had passed. I promised to stay by her side forever, she was someone who I’d be willing to protect for an eternity. Even after so long I remember when we had met, I still felt a bit guilty for accusing her of what had happened back then. But I also became guilty of hindering Raine with my love for her.
