Soccer (Football) Is My Go-To Sport Now

I never thought I'd say it, but soccer (or football, depending on how fancy you're feeling) has officially become my go-to sport.

At first, I didn't understand the appeal. How could people watch 22 people run around one field for 90 minutes and get excited about a score of 1-0? Then it happened. I found myself yelling at the TV, questioning referee decisions, and celebrating goals like I had personally contributed to the play.

Now I'm fully invested.

The best part is that soccer requires very little equipment. A ball, some cleats, and a dream. Meanwhile, I show up looking like I'm preparing for a championship match while also sporting what can only be described as the Hamburger Helper glove. If you're not familiar, that's the trusty goalkeeper glove that makes me look like I'm about to help prepare dinner and block a penalty kick at the same time.

When I put that glove on, I instantly gain confidence. Do I suddenly become an elite goalkeeper? Absolutely not. But for a brief moment, I feel like I could stop anything coming my way... except maybe responsibility, emails, and unexpected meetings.

The glove has become legendary. Some people wear lucky socks. Some athletes have pregame rituals. I have the Hamburger Helper glove. It's part sports equipment, part fashion statement, and part emotional support accessory.

Soccer has also taught me several important life lessons:

Running is harder than it looks.

Goalkeepers get blamed for everything.

Referees are apparently wrong 100% of the time according to everyone.

A game can end 0-0 and somehow still be exciting.

Never underestimate someone wearing a giant glove.

These days, if you can't find me, there's a good chance I'm watching soccer, talking about soccer, or trying to convince people that soccer is actually the best sport in the world. The combination of skill, strategy, teamwork, and occasional dramatic flopping makes every match an adventure.

So yes, soccer is now my sport of choice. And while the players may have fancy uniforms and sponsorship deals, I'll be over here proudly wearing my Hamburger Helper glove, ready to save goals and possibly assist with tonight's dinner.
