#cleansing routine

For some of us, winter is drawing to a close and spring is just around the corner. Now is the time, at least for me, to do THE BIG CLEANSE™. Get into every nook and cranny of my space and remove those stagnant energies like no tomorrow.

Now, there may be some of you who are new to witchcraft, or those who want to start doing more cleansing “rituals”, but may not know where to start. This here is a list of tried and true tips and tricks to the cleansing process I have personally used, and have worked for me! 

When cleansing, the things you can do are...

Opening a window to let fresh air in. I know that seems basic, but letting in the outside air will help to flow the stagnant energies out of your space.

Using an essential oil diffuser and using oils that correspond with cleansing. I commonly use sage, lemon, and rosemary, but you may use whatever works best for you.

Making a cleansing spray! Put sage, salt, and water into a spray bottle. When cleansing, spray all the corners of the room you are cleansing.

If you have a salt lamp or selenite lamp, turning them on. Both salt and selenite are vacuums for negative energies, and turning on these lamps “activates” them to do their job.

Programming clear quartz to soak up the negative/stagnant energies. Clear quartz is special in that it has the correspondence of whatever you decide it should have. You can empower the crystal with the ability to capture the energies in your space that you are cleansing! Just make sure you then cleanse the quartz before using it again.

Using visualization to force the bad energies out of your space. Examples of different things to visualize are seeing the energies being blown out and away, or being washed.

Actually cleaning the space you are in. This can not only help you get into a better place mentally to do your spiritual cleanse, but it may also help get the stagnant energies moving around and about.

🔮 First and foremost, cleaning is probably the BEST thing to do when you’re trying to rid yourself of nasty energy. Having your space clean takes the clutter out of your mind, aura, etc. Clean space, happy mind. So, I start out with cleaning my room and taking care of any chores that I may need to do whether it’s making my bed, doing laundry, cleaning my bathroom, anything. Accomplishing those tasks can feel so rewarding and it really takes the weight off of your shoulders!

🔮 Smoke cleansing. I use either regular sage or white sage, it really doesn’t matter. Sage is sage. I do this straight after I clean my space. I also love to use sandalwood or dragon’s blood incense. From my own experience, they rid of any nasty energy that’s around me or inside of me.

🔮 Meditation. It’s something that everybody talks about and so many people hate. I didn’t like it for such a long time, and I thought that I could never do it. But I can. Meditation is so immensely helpful in all aspects of our lives. Spiritual and mundane, it doesn’t matter. It still helps. I love guided meditations that exist to assist you with balancing your chakras, clearing your mind, gratitude, breathing exercises, all of that. I also use energy work while I do meditation so that I can make sure there aren’t any blockages, especially in my solar plexus.

🔮 Self-love. I work with Aphrodite so this is an important thing for me that I also dedicate for her. She always tells me how I give myself a hard time and that I really need to calm down. So what she usually suggests to me is taking a hot bath or just a plain shower. It always makes me feel good on the outside and on the inside. I also sometimes just sit there and paint my nails or make myself some tea or cook some yummy food for myself. Feeling good is such an important thing and I think it’s amazingly beneficial and can change lives.

I’m not a skincare expert and I’m far from it but I think a good cleanser is the start of all your skin improvements. Know your skin and recognise if you really need to cleanse both in the morning and at night. 

Take me for example: I used to cleanse every morning but after a while of sticking to the same routine and going from oily skin to combination/normal skin, I started realising that it was making my skin a bit dry every morning so I started skipping cleanser in the morning and just cleaning the remnants of product from the night before with my hydrating toner – it got the job done AND it wasn’t too striping for my face at the same time. I know that for someone who might have oily/acne prone skin, the thought of not cleansing probably makes you cringe but you have to keep in mind that washing too much isn’t the solution either: your “oil” aka sebum is a natural thing your skin produces and it is the way your skin lubricates itself and compensates for lack of moisture, hence why it’s critical to moisturise (look for non-comedogenic moisturisers so it won’t clog your pores) even if you have oily skin, since it will be a way to “trick” your pores into not producing for much sebum. 

At night, if you’re someone who wears make up, double cleansing can be your holy grail method. I don’t wear a lot of make up on a daily basis but I do wear sunscreen and bit of make-up to make me look like a normal human being and not a zombie, so when I heard about this trick I immediately dropped my make-up wipes (please get rid of those or save them for only those days when you’re too tired to even think of taking your make up off in the best way) and tried it.

This so called double cleansing method consists of using two cleanser (well, duh!): an oil-based cleanser, like a cleansing balm, cleansing oil or lotion to help dissolve your make-up, and a water-based cleanser, like a gentle foaming or gel cleanser that helps clean the oiliness and make-up residue left. I found this to be the best way to really make sure you get all the make-up off your face and reassure yourself that there is no “sneaky make-up” left on your pores, clogging it. 

For the interested ones: I am currently using a cleansing lotion from Avon, with ginger and aloe, that is very gentle on your face and it removes all the make-up and a Tea Tree Foaming cleanser from The Body Shop that is my holy grail (I’ve repurchased this product multiple times and I’m still in love with how gentle it is on my face and it does not leave that tightness that other cleanser with tea tree can leave your face feeling). Both of these products are no more than 10€, which my wallet loves.
