Chloe threw herself down on the couch next to Rachel. She said nothing, but she didn’t have to. Since they first met, her and Rachel had been in sync. It was like they were on the same wavelength, which was weird, since Chloe seemed to be on a different wavelength every day or so.
Chloe was in a shittty mood. This was typical of her after most conversations with her mom ever since she remarried. She sighed heavily and finally turned to face her angel friend. She gave a half-smile and then looked at her hands.
“Rachel, we gotta blow this town.”
She leaned back, resting her head on top of the headrest of the sofa, allowing her eyes to scan the ceiling. It was the same damn ceiling she’d stared at since she was little. This town never changed, and yet she kept changing. It was fucked up. She was like a whirlpool in a stagnant pond, just swallowing up everything around her and destroying it.
Rachel was her escape. The raging maelstrom inside seemed to pull a little less when she was around. She was really happy when they spent time together, in fact, she was only happy when they were together.
“Just drive somewhere far away, and never look back, you know?”
