Claire huffs. Her hands coming to rest on the growing swell of her stomach. She was only four months along but Owen seemed to think that each day she was much further. Sometimes it was adorable to see him doing everything in his power to make sure she was safe, happy, and comfortable. Other times, it was just outrageous.

Not that she entirely blamed him. This was their first baby.

Maybe the book wasn’t so bad, and it would help him to relax a bit. But right now, Claire just wanted Owen for herself. Turning, she sits up and leans over his body.

“Give me this.” Claire sighs, plucking the book from her husband’s hands, lightly tossing it away. Owen blinks as the tiny printed words were taken from his sight and replaced by Claire’s teasing smile. “And I’ll give you this.” She says softly before she leans down and presses a kiss to his lips.

His arms come around her, his big hand gliding over her back as he carefully pulls her closer. Claire melts at his touch. The book is forgotten at the foot of the bed. 

Owen’s touch moves from her back to her growing stomach and he pulls back for a moment, looking over his wife before grinning. “Did you know the baby is the size of an avocado right now?” He asks. Claire pauses, her hands falling his shoulders to his chest. She stares at him for a moment before a snorted laugh leaves her.

“That’s what you’re getting from this?” She asks back, shaking her head. “Oh my God, Owen.” She tosses a pillow at him. “Go to bed.” 

With a few more teasing and stolen kisses between them, Claire finally finds peace in the dark with Owen’s strong arms holding her gently. Until her eyes fly open wide.
