i’ve mentioned most on this ask and this ask and there’s absolutely more, but the most angsty i have planned that deeply affects her is probably her relationship with clint!

as mentioned on the first linked post above, although they have a lot of fun together, audrey and clint’s relationship remains rocky throughout the years as she feels like clint doesn’t really want to be a dad

(though that is definitely not the case; clint is just really not the emotional type and is more of a chill guy, which she knows but doesn’t think that they are related!)

and this just hits her super close to home because she never ever wants to lose her family again; and with clint she feels as though that is very likely to happen (especially when he was still an avenger)

but she never spoke about this to him or to anyone because that’s just not something she was comfortable with

so their relationship gets more distant and complicated when she realizes that clint was behind the mask of ronin as she continues to look for him while they try to protect slash get rid of kate (lmao)

ronin killing her girlfriend while they were on a mission is why she’s in pursuit of him and how she even reunited with kate in the first place

so anyway, clint doesn’t notice the change in audrey’s behavior until in ep 4 where kate says out loud that he’s the ronin, and they have a talk in the kitchen which escalates to her screaming “because ronin killed my girlfriend” or something along those lines

honestly their relationship is just a constant work in progress and i think it will continue to be like that even after the events of hawkeye :((

OOF okay so obviously there is a lot since her fic takes place in hawkeye but!!!

my favorite as of now is probably when she accompanied kate back to her apartment

like she was a drafting major and planned on being an engineer/architect so she knows a lot about buildings or rebuilding in general

and while she’s comforting kate about being able to fix or salvage most of it, yelena goes “kate bishoooop”

kate almost couldn’t have thrown the hot sauce at her because of how quick audrey put her behind her back 😭😭

anyway anyway so they’re sitting down and yelena and kate are conversing while she just sits there and listens to them, sometimes jumps in with some commentary and when yelena talks to or about her

when the conversation gets serious and yelena starts criticizing clint for what he’s done, audrey remains the same (all the while still joining in on the mac n cheese because she loves hot sauce)

silent

not defending her dad

not even saying anything at all

she doesn’t even react, she just listens

and the whole time kate was looking back at her every few seconds and expects her to help her defend clint, but she got absolutely nothing

like she already knew about fran, she just didn’t think that audrey would just let someone think/say that clint killed his best friend, you know?

and kate calls her out on this but still, audrey just stays quiet about it

and i feel like that’s so important because she knows in her heart that what yelena is saying is true because she experienced it first hand (not that what happened to nat was clint’s fault, of course!!); but her not saying anything or not defending him doesn’t mean that she thinks the same

she still loves him, of course, she won’t be able to help that

but everything else is a gray area for her

i think that’s just the truest thing about their dynamic; she never really knows how she feels about clint outside of “i love him because he’s my dad”

there’s just so much that they haven’t talked about, and this is both on them, and it has affected them both in so many levels that they don’t even know

so i think that this is one of the most important scenes bc this is when audrey realizes how he really sees her dad;

not a hero, not a murderer, not anything

just her father who tries his best for his family and although he fails a lot, she still loves him so much

and her not saying this out loud isn’t only because she’s not comfortable talking about her feelings, but because she doesn’t really think that anyone would understand why this is how she feels or thinks about her dad

i want there to be progress, though; so before the ending of hawkeye, they will probably take the next step into having a better and healthier relationship by acknowledging that they need better communication skills <3
