I Just Watched "The Perks of Being a Wallflower"
I like this movie so much, but I get really sad, to the point where I can't even stare at the screen for too long because I'm afraid I will cry. I think it just brings up old feelings, like when I played my last concert at my high school music performance. A good therapist will tell you to stay in that pocket, feel the feelings and deal with it.
At least that what I assume they would say from what I have read and studied in psychology.
I am a guy who wears his heart practically on my forehead for all to see, and maybe this is something I shouldn't do because this opens a window for others to hurt you.
But I figure that if others can heart you, then you aren't being true to yourself or you're playing some sort of game.
This movie really got me missing what it was like to be an artist. The hangouts, the slower pace, the freedom of expression, the love, the laughs, but the thing I miss most is the performances. Although my experience of music was not like this at all. I think this is what Hollywood does is that it presents this high-school experience that people desire, but in reality life is chaotic and messy and things like this rarely happen.
I think one part of life that really sucks is parental involvement, or rather the over involvement in their kids future; as if they fear that they are trying to take their cultural roots away from their children. But here me out, maybe your culture sucks.
In science it's not really that much different, you have to still practice your techniques, in the form of studying and learning what is going to happen in the experiment. Then there is performing the actual techniques, which is hard to practice because we get one shot in the lab for each experiment.
Well, then you have to write a report every week. On top of that there is lecture, and then there are other courses, and labs, and experiments in other fields.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower shows what an ideal high school experience would be like, I guess, if you are into that classic literature and the Dead Poets Society/Bohemian that it is presented as some sublime dream. It also showed me the differences between families with different educational backgrounds and how these socioeconomic differences contribute and shape the future of the children within those families.
Anyway, I am just talking.
