oh boy
okay so, bad English ahead,,
at first i liked them simply because i was warming up to rarepairs in general and was trying to find interesting ships other than the fanfavorites, but it turned into a āhow would these characters complement each other in the storyā thing - which is why i can completely understand why the most popular EriTav quadrant interpretation is a moiralleance! but iām a sucker for fluff Eridan stuff and i like to make it coincide with my wish for Tavros to be in a happy matespritship (i ship him with many characters LOL), even if i know a red relationship between them would probably end up like DirkJake*.
itās hard to define what their dynamic would actually be like, as in canon theyāve never interacted on-screen, but I think theyād make an interesting duo because they have many similarities and differences!
i donāt really know how to present my thoughts properly, so hereās a list of contrasting or similar characteristics they have:
- the contrast between the second highest and second lowest blood caste, with one particular factor -> while Eridan plays into the seadwelling highblood role perfectly, Tavros openly defies the rules of the hemospectrum: as a post iāve reblogged points out, he lives in a highblooded area, as he is able to use his psyonic abilities to defend himself - just like Aradia! but he defies its rules even more than her, as he fully believes in his ancestorās existence (most lowbloods believe ancestors are just legends) and constantly trains to follow his path just like highbloods do.
- as we know, Eridan is very emotional - when he gets emotional, his frustration builds up until his behavior becomes destructive; Tavros is sensitive, but doesnāt get emotional easily - when he does, however, he āfleetsā from the situation.
- -> *Princes are self-loathing destroyers, Pages are insecure conflict-avoiders. Princes can often get megalomaniacal as well - but while, for example, a Thief does it for āmostly selfishā reasons and a Seer because theyāre fully convinced theyāre doing the right thing, Princes do that because they seek constant validation. Pages almost always get shit done when someone else is involved, and need otherās assistance constantly, but their character arc consists in becoming independent and knowing how to handle their own power. (a clingy and destructive validation seeker and āwimpā with potential who seeks peace and confidence, what a great dynamic for angst content and character development/redemption arcs).
- Hope is strictly tied to fate: their final role is to defeat Lord English; so, Hope players are said to be ādestined to great thingsā - if they donāt accomplish anything great, their character becomes mostly a nuisance to the narrative. Breath players, however, are not limited by the narratorās will, and will often ādo their own thingā, because they donāt have a specific goal - unironically, this gives them great power to mold the story to their will, or at the very least leave a great impact (Tavros built an army off-screen (his development arc as a Page is not presented directly in the story because of his nature as a Breath player + Hussieās dislike for him)).
- their connection to magic! Eridan insists he believes it to be fake, even though itās all just a facade; Tavros recognizes that it probably is fake, but he finds comfort in magical stuff as an escape from reality. Eridan is connected to wizards (reason I also find EriRoxy very cute), while Tavros has a power that makes him more of a DnD-style druid, minus the ability to transform into an animal.
- as i mentioned, Tavros lives in a area mostly populated by highbloods; more specifically: certain vicinity with Vriska, therefore also with Terezi, Aradia, Eridan (roleplaying shenanigans in real life), Equius (Vriskaās neighbor) and possibly Gamzee (whose lusus was struck by an harpoon probably belonging to Eridan). Eridan often hangs out at a shore which may be the one near Tavrosā hive. someone on here said they headcanon Eridan to be the one to bring Tavros back to his hive after the cliff incident, and yāknow what⦠hell yeah!
- they both have a seemingly positive relationship with their lusii and a past experience with Vriska - they could bond over the trauma of loosing their guardians, that they were really attached to, and having been tormented by the iconic Spider8itch (even though iād argue that Tavros had it much worse).
- Eridanās duty is to kill lusii, Tavros communes with lusii (great inspiration for pitch EriTav scenarios).
- they are both shown getting deeply jealous (Eridan is jealous of Sollux and Feferi while Tavros is jealous of John and Vriska).
thatās all i think! iāll edit this post if anything else comes to mind.
thanks for the ask!!! ^_^
