cont What Jason feels for Bruce is a very complicated love and yearning, and it's all tangled up with his deeply entrenched issues about never being good enough, being a disappointment, fearing that he will inevitably mess up the relationship with Bruce and the rest of Batfam, and so on. It's all a recurring theme in RHatO and I hope it will also get explored during Jason's team up with Dick in upcoming RHatO annual.

exactly this, anon! I feel like sometimes people can forget that what a character says doesn’t necessarily spell out the whole truth. Jason is a very complex and emotional character, and it only makes sense that he considers himself an outcast from the batfam. he’s the black sheep of the family and has a ton of self-esteem/inferiority issues. of course he doesn’t feel like he fits in with Dick “favorite” Grayson, Tim “perfect” Drake, and Damian “blood son” Wayne! he tried to kill half the family at one point! that’s gotta be hard to come back from.

it sucks that the fandom sees these characters as so one-dimensional sometimes. where’s the interest if they’re just your run of the mill dysfunctional family? Jason’s issues with fitting in stretch back to his original Robin run and are glaringly obvious basically everywhere but the (godawful) n52. to ignore those issues are to basically ignore a huge chunk of the character, and at that point, like, why not just pick another character?? cuz Jason ain’t a confident, happy, content guy. don’t be mad because your views don’t line up with what’s been canon for decades, y’know?
