currently, trans people in the military are discharged under gender identity disorder, not gender dysphoria, like what is in the DSM-5 and the latest version of the WPATH standards of care. the department of defense is currently reviewing its medical policy, not the ban of trans folks specifically, so i imagine them at least updating their policy to no longer be so outdated. the army in itself has made changes so that a top civilian official can only approve of discharges of trans troops--officers canβt just make discharges right and left. for the 15,000+ trans troops serving in the military, this is definitely making change.
