here's a copy-pasted piece of a totk rewrite i came up with during the summer (based on how i thought the plot was gonna go after my first few hours in the game)!!
early hyrule:
the rise of ganondorf is more slowburn - sonia and rauru are getting alerts that suspicious things are happening around the kingdom and are traveling around to see...this is when they "collect" the sages. i don't really like the sage ancestors in totk so maybe they can be their own characters this time around
zelda joins them after getting sent back in time
she recognizes certain warning signs from the calamity and alerts sonia and rauru; they begin warning the citizens of hyrule
zelda's time powers cause her to inadvertently project visions of herself into the present hyrule and this is the explanation of the princess sightings: she's advising citizens of ancient hyrule of the impending danger, but modern hyruleans are also receiving these messages; they're confused why she's giving them info about things that don't seem to exist
instead of dragon's tears, zelda creates "time bubbles" that link can access via the recall ability to see her memories, and occasionally, at sites of sacred power, allows them to directly interact (like at the temple of time when they exchange the master sword)
(but i don't think they can quite "speak" through these time bubbles yet... maybe it's more like they exchange key items or abilities through them?)
zelda is training her time powers with sonia to allow her to create these "direct-contact" time bubbles on purpose....it's like a crazy beefed-up version of recall that you perform on the environment instead of individual objects.....so YEAH we do get to see zelda practicing basic recall a bit before she can start doing this "environmental recall"
