Yeah, that's basically what I was trying to say there (this is why I shouldn't be allowed to type things out at nearly 2 in the morning). There's tons of fertile political soil in her books, it's just sad that she personally doesn't go along with it. (Also, like, with Cat's Eye, like 90% of the chapters so far have just been like "yeah, I felt free and unconstrained by gender norms until I started playing with other kids and was forced to perform gender in certain ways because of school" - I mean, how is that not, in at least the most basic level, a feminist argument? So yeah, the books are kickass.)
