Most circlesongs are improvisations. When one intends to make a circlesong, one must form a circle with their group, and stand in silence. When the time is right, one person will start with a sound. Maybe a beat, or a melody. One at a time, sometimes two, the other people will join with their own sound, creating a repetitive, increasingly complex song.
Today I made a circlesong for you. I am not a group, so I used my loop station. Afterwards I wrote down the improvised melodies so I can use them later on when I’m with a group.
What you’re hearing is the first improvised draft of the song. That means that the score isn’t exactly the same as what you’re hearing, because in the score I left out some voices.
