The universe is populated by these serpent-gods bigger than superclusters, each one is unique. I've only got two designed so far, Sylvia (the first one, who looks like a hognose snake but with iridescent scales, six retractable arms, gemstoney snoot and tail) and the Dark One (who's just kind of a snakey scribble of darkness with a big gaping mouth, which is kinda cliche I guess).

They create galaxies, but each has their unique way of doing so and the galaxies each one creates has its own "flavor" (they're kinda like the different planes of existence in D&D). The ones the Dark One makes (he leaves them behind like a trail of darkness) are all twisted and wrong, kinda like the Upside Down or Shadowfell. Sylvia molds them with her arms and then sheds her skin, leaving the shed behind to protect the newly formed galaxy as it matures. The scales slowly crumble over time until the galaxy is mature and the shed is gone. They fall into the galaxy, becoming rulers of their territory. Every scale has its own appearance* and personality and rules over its territory differently. Some try to conquer more, some generally ignore it, some create entire pantheons to aid them in protecting it.

The scale I've mostly focused on takes the shape of a Neptune-sized elephant beetle (with iridescent wing covers) and the world I've focused on is on its back. The "sun" and "moon" are cradled in its antlers, though they're actually just a single ever-rotating object with the sun on one half and the moon on the other. The beetle has a crusty cover over its shell that the population lives on, but some populations of mining-focused peoples have told of the impenetrable iridescent "ground" below.

So basically, none of it makes any sense and it only really exists to look pretty. (I'm on mobile so please excuse any typos)
