The one and only @ohwizeone will be there from 1-3pm giving us insight on Spreading Our Wings with Blogging. Where insight, truth and art intersect, you will find Laura Wize. This blogger, panelist, writer, and poet, called “The Wize One”, devotes her energies to enhancing and uplifting anyone she can. Through her blog, www.ohwizeone.com, she demonstrates how fashion, style, passion, and artistry can rejuvenate the soul. She uses her writing to empower fashionistas to achieve their dreams and use their voice to positively impact their world. Besides my child in the background... Yesterday's #WordPlayCincy #Scribes was AMAZING!!! We wrote Definition poems and Where I'm From poems. And if you have time check out our Group poem of course entitled Where I’m From…… by Cincy Scribes and Guest Teaching Artist Siri Imani 9/17/2016 I am from so much more than my small house, in my small neighborhoods, in my small town, in my relatively small state. I’m from love and acceptance. I’m from the Disney generation. I’m Saturday morning watching That’s So Raven. I’m from the two hour arguments about who wants to be which Cheetah Girl. I am from old concrete sidewalks from back alley ways and forgotten streets. I am from the motion of my hands, to the words that came from my hopes and dreams. Because denial is way easier than admitting you are wrong. I am from rough neighborhoods, from good hearts to good people I am from a loving family. Students do not have to perform in this workshop, they can work on their writing in a safe, supportive environment of peer writers and poets. If students do want to delve into performance, Desirae provides coaching in stage presence, delivery, cadence, and timing - whether for local open mic events, or to prepare high school students to compete in the city-wide Louder Than a Bomb youth poetry slam! Sooooooo I don't normally toot my horn but I believe this is toot worthy.... Three years back I was offered a position to help organize and build up a program. And I found a new passion in me that I didn't even know I had. But I wanted more and more for the youth so the following year I threw a couple of ideas to #WordPlayCincy on a name to build more for our teen writing community and #CincyScribes was born. Here I am another year later broadening the program into more than just poetry but all creative writing annnnnnddd I get a title as Program Director of Cincy Scribes!!!! Say WHAT???? I could go on and on but I'll save that for an article. 😂😂😂. I'm beyond grateful and humbled for this position.
