The problem I have with the Christopher Nolan Odyssey using the Bronze Age collapse is that he doesn't integrate the concept thoroughly with the story. While it's a cool concept since historians speculate the Odyssey is a half-remembered version of the bronze age collapse from the Mycenean Greek perspective, the problem is the film has Odysseus be the sole cause of it. The actual Bronze Age collapse was caused by several factors including failing governments, desertification of environments, the sea peoples raiding places. And even with the Sea Peoples some of them were raiders but some might have actually been refugees. The point is that the Bronze Age collapse was not caused by just one guy. So, when the movie tries to invoke it, the execution feels very hollow.
A better way to show it would be to show that all the civilizations featured in the Odyssey are in decline, including all the Greek kingdoms and Troy. And that the Trojan war might be a desperate attempt by the Greeks to survive. A film that better executes this concept is Apocalypto. While Apocalypto is not 100% historically accurate it does capture the sense of a once great, decaying civilization that is ultimately taken over by outsiders.
