so i love snakes, they're pretty much my favourite animal (besides cheetahs) and I've wanted one as a pet since i was 16. i do however still live with my parents and know I cannot get one till I have my own place, which is fine I accept that.

what grates me is that every single time I tell an adult (as in people over the age of like 40) that I want a snake as a pet they 1) immediately say things like "ew" or "no" or "that's disgusting/awful/horrible/every terrible adjective you can think of" or just "why???“ and 2) they almost always say "well I'm never going to visit you"

and I can usually brush off the first comments by saying something like, "but I love snakes,"

the second comment however produces a conversation that goes something like this:

Me: I want a snake as a pet

Them: I'm never going to visit you

Me: why not? I won't take them out of their little homes when you're there if you don't feel comfortable and—

Them: no I'm never going to visit you. Nobody will visit you. Is that what you want? Huh? For noone to visit you?

Me *who is completely fed up at this point*: Um yep I guess so.

see the thing is, you are making the choice to be malicious about this. I never said don't come visit me. and I don't know why I have to forbid myself from getting a pet-friend that I want because you don't approve.

But on the real:

Can we all just take a second to imagine the devastating, genuine fear Rowan felt. Like I know SJM describes it but just put yourself in his shoes for five seconds. Now imagine casually glancing around for your wife, wife, and finding she's not anywhere near you or where it's safe so you start panicking and look up and she's just being carried by the shoulders into the middle of a battlefield where an entire fucking dam is about to burst. And there's literally nothing you can do because she's too far and the dam is cracking so fast and all you can think is "she's going to die. She's going to sacrifice herself and die and I've just gotten her back." guys I cannot even put into words how much that scene hits me.

When we lost my cousin in a national park I literally felt every organ in my body shut down. It was like ice got injected straight into my veins.

And then he realises what she actually plans to do and he has to dreg up every single tiny morsel of power he has right after a fucking battle and stop the steam from incinerating everyone?

Holy. Shit. Like my heart is beating so fast right now! That shit must have been terrifying. I cannot handle these books. My soul wasn't built for this much panic.
