Sitting at a table in the corner you stirred the coffee you ordered and sighed. You paused for a second, gazing out the window. The rain was pouring, clouds swirling above painted the skies in a gloomy grey. Turning your head back slowly your eyes fell on the couple at the other side of the cafe.

Jiwoo and Sooyoung had decided to go on a date today, giggling and blushing from their table. You couldn’t tell what they were doing, but watching them have fun brought a smile to your face. A smile that was painful, but accepting.

You were well aware of how they were drifting from you. yet you still loved them. From Jiwoo’s bubbly personality to Sooyoung’s gorgeous smile, you adored them. However, no amount of love would be able to hide your anguish. You just wished they would pay attention to you, that they would cherish you.. like they used to do. Deja vu struck you as you watched Jiwoo press a playful kiss to Sooyoung’s nose.

“Sooyoung you know it’s ok to want love from us sometimes” Jiwoo’s tone was playful, and you couldn’t help but fall in love with her a little more. “Well sorry I’m just kind of embarrassed I guess” Sooyoung quietly admitted. “Being embarrassed is fine, I think you’re cute when you’re flustered.” You smiled softly at Sooyoung, as she quickly blushed from your words. You kissed Sooyoung on the nose, and sounds of laughter filled your heart. At that exact moment you knew you were in love with them, something you couldn’t forget.

Snapping out of the memory you suddenly felt your eyes watering. Something about watching them hurt, you couldn’t do it anymore, you had to leave.

You didn’t make a scene, you simply stood up and left the cafe, doubting that either of your partners had noticed. Taking in a deep breath, you felt the cold wet air hit your lungs. The rain felt nice, falling gently on your hair and dripping onto your face. The warmth of your tears contrasted with the cool droplets of rain falling down your features.

Tears began to stream further the more you imagined Jiwoo and Sooyoung. Maybe they didn’t need you, maybe you were a burden. Maybe you should just break up with them, they seem happier without you anyway. You kicked a rock out of frustration as you continued walking down the empty sidewalk. But maybe you just need a break, a few moments to get your thoughts together; alone. The thought of resting without worrying about your girlfriends did seem nice. And with that thought you felt ever so slightly better. Holding your head up high you closed your eyes and accepted it. Everything happens for a reason right? Maybe you just were destined to be the girl in the rain.
