Worth It
Throughout my undergraduate years, I’ve gone through a crazy journey in terms of community and friendships. I’ve been hurt, trampled upon, tossed aside, underappreciated, taken advantage of. Sleep, time, grades, money, sanity, all sacrificed, much to the detriment of myself.
Friendships grew, some fizzled out. Some went in and out of different seasons. And others never happened. A couple took a turn for the worst. But through it all, I found community--deep, genuine friendships so rooted in Jesus that no time or distance could change the quality of our relationship (even if the quantity suffers). Looking back, all of those experiences and sacrifices weren’t for naught.
At this point, it’s kind of sad that most of my close friends either live far away or don’t appear regularly in my life anymore, or they’re looking to move on in life to other things/places, but it’s been encouraging not having to worry about the longevity of these relationships. If anything, the time/frequency/proximity changes may have grown my friendships in really unexpected ways that have truly blessed me.
Maybe this will change in the future, but right now, all I know is that my heart is full, I feel blessed & encouraged, and that Jesus really is present when we are gathered in His name [’:
