Chrysopsis villosa var. villosa Â
C. villosa var. villosa is known for being much more downy around the nodes, almost cobwebby, and while C. villosa var. canescence is still pretty pubescent, it’s not cobwebby, it is more matted with dense hair and also appears to be grey to the eye. The other botanical variety present in the Wichita mountains is C. villosa var. stenophylla, known for much smaller leaves(linear in appearance, and much smaller in stature. Usually C. villosa var. stenophylla is found growing in straight rock or a chasm with extremely shallow substrate on the sides of cliffs. C. villosa var. stenophylla seems more glaucus blue to the eye than grey like var. canescence, the leaves are also more stiff and just as downy as var. canescence.Â
These hairy gold asters are fairly common in shallow substrates with var. villosa being the most common.Â
