I❤️NY. You’re so random. I asked the universe to let me have a good day today. That wish was granted at the end of my day. • I left work jamming Christmas music; I got on my train on 59th St and I ran into Santa and Mrs. Claus in full red outfit and looking legit. I couldn’t help it but to stare and smile at them. You know Christmas is my most favorite season and I was loving this moment! ❤️🎅🏼🤶🏼 • I lowered the volume because I heard Santa speaking in Italian. He was trying to exchange Facebook names with an older couple and they were just getting lost in translation. Santa didn’t speak English; the other older couple didn’t speak Italian. • I jumped in and translated back and forth for both couples and saved the moment. That was so wonderful! Sometimes I underestimate my language skills until a moment like this presents itself and validates for me that life is good, that good things will come when you ask for them, and that I can make the difference in someone’s life even if it’s a simple little thing. • The Clauses made my entire day so wonderful. This older couple from Milan was a gem and I loved them. I asked them if I could take a picture with them and this is what I captured. • We got off at the same train stop. We said our goodbyes, wished each other Merry Christmas in Italian, and I also wished them a great trip back to Milan tomorrow, and said thank you for that moment. • All I said in my mind, as I walked away, was “thank you universe for this moment” with a big smile on my face. Ever since Nathan became a doctor he has insisted on working every Christmas so that a Christian colleague could be off with their family. Today one of the nurses on his unit tested positive. Meanwhile, the big, loving, Puerto Rican family that usually surrounds us on Christmas Eve is having a socially distanced holiday after our host, my cousin Flaco, died of Covid at the start of this pandemic. The kids and I are in a hotel room doing zoom calls instead of hugging our extended family today. So, yes, I miss Nathan more than I usually do this Christmas and I am keenly aware of how lucky we are that he will be back with us in a few days. I think of military families whose daddies, mommies and partners aren't coming home for a long time (or perhaps not at all). • As I think of my sweetheart and loving family, I am also sending love and prayers to you all on this Christmas.
