One of our usual customers walks up to the pick up window to pick up her RX (obviously). And because of rules, we ask her for her birthday. Normally she is fine and does without asking. But that day for some particular reasons, she must have forgotten to take her crazy meds. She looked up straight into my eyes and says to me,

"For being someone in this profession, I would expect you to have better hair. Since you make some money, I insist you go and buy yourself a nice comb and fix that problem on your head."

Baffled, I didn't know what to say. Its one thing to argue with me about your insurance or how to find something in the store or why you should get your narcotics early, but a personal insult after simply asking a routine and normal question ... ? WOW!

I really can submit stories for days, makes me think that I should make my own blog. 

But the story goes ...

I really really really really hate Interns. I'm sorry but the majority lack the common sense to walk into a retail pharmacy and "work". And what irks me most is that they all want residencies and never ever want to work retail, saying it will be their last resort and that retail has no place for them to expand their knowledge as a future pharmacist. BLAH BLAH BLAH

So our intern has been with us for 6 months. When a customer asks for a pharmacist, instead of offering what knowledge she has, she brings my pharmacist over for everything. When people call for transfers or have questions she avoids them by saying she hasn't been taught that in school.

So every one and their mothers know Z-paks are a 5 day supply. AND I MEAN EVERYONE. Our patients all know it. That was the first thing I learned walking into the pharmacy. And without fail, every time we get an e-script for a Z-pak, she always always always gets in wrong. 4 days, 6 days, 8 days, 12 days. She gives me all the days in the book except FIVE .. really? PDX automatically autopopulates the day supply field for you and you feel the need to change it. And you say you want to be a pharmacist and you can't simply remember something a technician like me knows. Just because you're a pharmacy intern and don't want to work in retail means you can just do as you please and put whatever day supply you'd like on the script. Because when you leave, you won't have to deal with the insurance audits that come around 10x a year and how we explain to those idiots how we had one idiot who didn't know how many day supply a Z-pak was.
