“the back story to that (anything goes) is, we came together—me and izzy, and then soon axl…rock in a hard place (aerosmith) came out, and me and izzy really liked rock in a hard place—really listened to it a lot…the riffs are really awesome…something in that record sort of inspired that (anything goes). and that’s how the song kind of came to be.
izzy’s part in a lot of the songs—all the guns n’ roses songs—you’ll hear a completely different part, you will go like, ‘wow, this doesn’t even sound like the song,’ but together it makes guns n’ roses, why guns n’ roses sounds like it does. if izzy wasn’t there, it wouldn’t have that element. it’s the seasoning to those songs. if you listen to hollywood rose the roots of guns n’ roses album, you can really hear that part from izzy. so together, that turned into anything goes.
and the writing process was always—me and izzy would put it down on a tape and then give the tape to axl. and then axl would go away for a couple days and come back with the lyrics.”
