today we had a socratic seminar about antigone and such and i started thinking a lot about choragos. who are they?? what are they, i mean? i’ve never really been able to fit them into the conventional role of a human being, like they are set apart from other characters in a way that’s hardly describable. are they some kind of odd entity sent from the gods to be a narrator, along with the chorus? are they fate itself, helping to move the story along by being completely agreeable to each and every character, whether or not their ideas are good? (i’m talking about creon obvs. choragos waited until the last possible second to steer creon off his path.)
Big words are always punished, and proud men in old age learn to be wise.

Have I mentioned I really like Choragos? Of everyone in the Oedipus cycle, he is the most diplomatic and neutral, and he has the best lines.
