The new hens have settled in well
The girls are off to their run in the garden 😁
Sadly last week we had a day time visit from Mr Fox while me and the boys were at the far end of the farm. I lost all of my lovely layers 😞.
So today I collected some new hens and will keep them in the stable until I have managed to beef up security.
My new crew comprises 2 bluebell, 2 speckled Plymouth Rock, 2 buff Orpington and 2 black rock ladies.

Sitka
My three hens are having their annual moult. Once a year they drop their feathers and grow a lovely new set for winter. Two of them (the black Australorp cross and the grey Blue-laced Wyandotte) go about it in a low key way. The third (the orange Gold-laced Wyandotte) looks like she’s been beat up by a gang of roaming peacocks. (There is actually a gang of roaming peacocks near me.)
Look at her with her one sad tail feather, most of her wing feathers missing, and new ‘pin’ feathers everywhere. I hope her flock help her pull the keratin off the pins on the back of her head poor babe…
I've put one of the meat breed cocks with the layers. It may not work but he isn't too heavy and with any luck I'll end up with some hybrid chicks 🐣
