Boots sunk into red sand. She’d dug some out from under her so she could be more eye level with the rim of her tire. Crouched like a gargoyle in front of the dented metal. Took her three tries to get the length of her hair tied up with her stiff fingers. Ran her keys through her sideburns until they were sufficiently untangled. She knew better than to try and negotiate a comfortable grip with the left hand, was tired of having scabs on her scalp. She shook out the gardening glove and pulled it onto her right hand with her teeth.   She turned her head sideways and peered at her reflection dragging the razor across the side of her scalp. It was so much easier to have someone else do this. She had a chance back at standover’s camp. They had a few handy hair tailors and she probably would have wound up looking a little neater, but she just hadn’t been in the mood to be touched. The sound of the hair being cut would make her shiver, the hearing loss made those sounds muffled, like it was coming from inside her head. Unraveling like her threadbare tank tops. She definitely swiped a little too deep a couple of times. Creating scabs on her scalp anyway. She rushed through the rest with uneven quick swipes when she felt the sun starting to burn her back, leaving multiple cowlicks of varying lengths. Last thing someone with a shit haircut needed was a sunburn.
