MODC FINAL EPISODE RANT (yes, it has spoilers but if I were you I wouldn't watch it anyway)
Ok I just saw spoilers for the whole final ep of Modc and I'm pissed.
Even if we take out the fact that is assumed that the series in the History franchise will have a happy ending, the sad ending here just doesn't do anything for the story.
First of all: a fcking doppelganger?! Are you kinding me history? Are you a well known series or a low budget soap opera? They only used it so they could have the actor do something in the last episode and to put him in the preview so people wouldn't know it was a sad ending and still have them watching.
Second: I naturally don't like unhappy endings, but I'll put away that for a second. The sad ending and YXG's death doesn't do ANYTHING of value here. Regardless of the series/movie the ending doesn't have to be expected but it has to be justified. It would be one thing if YXG had, for example, been sick for most of the series and he passed away from it, but this was just for shock value! From a story standpoint it would have been much more logical for Trapped to have a sad ending than MODC (btw, rewatched trapped yesterday and it's still so so so good).
Third: What was the whole point then? (I know a lot of people might say it was about the path they took and that HT learned how to be responsible, etc. and that's valid but in my opinion it doesn't make up for anything). Up until now, it was full of messages like "Effort will pay off", "Fight for what you believe in even if society is against you" and more but with one fucking episode they just go "SIKE! The world is awful and everyone you love dies!". I know what they wanted it to be was that we should, literally, make our days count because nothing is forever but if that message only comes across because of the fcking tittle, it isn't well made.
Forth: YXG's life with this ending was just torture porn because, again, there was no reason for it. He didn't have parents because they died, fair. He lived alone and had no money because he didn't want to be a burden, fair. He died because he was walking on the street and life is unfair and fck the viewers.
Fifth (this is a quick one): Stop. Killing. Your. LGBT+. Characters. For. The. Hell. Of. It.
In conclusion, this ending is utter garbage, simply based in shock value instead of story development and I wish they could just have left it as it was on the previous episode. Did this ending accomplish a strong emotional response from me? Obviously, and if that's all they wanted, then they got it but when most viewers are more angry than sad with your sad ending it's not a good sign. What they did is make me not want to watch more of history, at least not until they finish and I get to see how it ending. Just one single episode brought down the empire HIStory was working up to be. You jumped the shark MODC.
(This rant is my opinion and my opinion only, if you enjoy the ending, that's great and I'm not saying you have bad taste, I wish I had liked it. Also, I maintain my previous compliments of this series: the acting and directing was great and some themes such as friendship and family were great, but I think this episode destroyed the romance storyline which was the main focus of the show.)
