The Shilha people or Shluh are an Amazigh ethnic group in Morocco.The self-name is Išlḥiyn, in French literature they usually are referred to as les Chleuhs. They live mainly in Morocco's Atlas Mountains and Souss Valley. The speak the Tashelhiyt language, which has around 4 million speakers (2004 census). The indigenous peoples of the central Moroccan coast, noted by the early Phoenician explorers, would have been the Chleuh. The first millennium voyages of Hanno described the Phoenicians' methods of peacefully trading with the native peoples of the Mogador area. The Shilha are associated with Amazigh music and dance.

À travers son art, sa voix éveille les consciences : elle porte fièrement son #identité et sa #féminité au-delà des frontières de l'Atlas et de l'Afrique du Nord. Un reportage poignant, signé La voix des Femmes Autochtones.
Une jeunesse marquée par les brimades et un mariage forcé à l’âge de 15 ans ont forgé le caractère combatif de Fatima Tabaamrant, dans les montagnes de l’Anti-Atlas au Maroc. La volonté de préserver la culture amazighe et d’aborder les problèmes sociétaux a surgi plus tard.
Devenue une raïssa (une chanteuse) reconnue, celle qui écrit aussi ses textes, réalise que son art est une arme d’émancipation massive. Protection de la langue, chômage des jeunes, corruption, place de la femmes… Ses poèmes chantés brisent les tabous et transforment ses concerts en meetings politiques artistiques. Icône de la chanson amazighe, elle se produit dans des festivals au Maroc et à travers le monde. L’enseignement de la langue amazighe lui tient à cœur. Elle défendra cette cause durant son mandat de parlementaire entre 2011 et 2016.
Aujourd’hui, Fatima poursuit sa carrière de chanteuse militante et inspire une nouvelle génération d’artistes engagés comme Khadija Arouhal.

Through a process of linguistic transference, from the period of French colonial rule in North Africa, the name “Chleuh” also came to be a French pejorative term for Germans.
