Well, that was nice while it lasted.
Yeah, I'm sad to see the win streak end at 7, but I hope that this was a wake-up call for the Hawks. Someone (I think it was Kane?) was talking the other night about the dangers of over-confidence, and I think this game highlighted just that. On the tail-end of a seven game win streak, they scored first early, and I think they might of gotten a little cocky, because they were not at all prepared for the Bruin’s pushback.
So rather than bemoan the fact that the streak is over, let’s understand that, if the Hawks can drag themselves to the postseason, these are the kind of teams that they will be facing. (Mind you, the Bruins are only 6th in the league). Better to lose now than to lose during a playoff game.
The Hawks need to come to terms with the fact that they are now an underdog team, and if they want to win they are going to have to play like one. This means fighting for every goal, every point, taking advantage of every possible opportunity because they absolutely cannot afford to not do that. Just looks at Kane - he 100% gets it. Tonight, high on a long string of wins, I think they forgot this, and the Bruins walked right over them.
Yeah, it’s harsh. But that’s the reality of today’s Hawks.
But one loss does not dictate a season, and I still firmly believe that if they keep on playing like they have been for the last month, the Hawks will definitely be a playoff contender. And how have they been playing for the last month? Desperately. And hey, it works.
15 game point streak, anyone?
