Chip PC est une société israélienne créée en 2000, d’une taille actuelle d’environs 250 personnes dans le monde, qui développe des terminaux légers alias Clients Légers. Ces terminaux remplacent les postes de travail traditionnels (PC sous Windows ou Linux, Mac, etc…) dans des infrastructures de serveurs qui hébergent des applications de manière centralisée (on va jusqu’à parler de virtualisation car c’est tendance, mais à ne pas confondre avec une vraie virtualisation…).
Les serveurs centralisés sous Windows Terminal Server, Citrix Xenapp, Ericom, Propalms, Systancia etc… permettent un déport d’affichage, utilisant un protocole d’affichage spécifique (RDP, ICA …). Le terminal léger en bout de chaîne, permet la saisie et l’affichage des informations à distance, le traitement applicatif étant réalisé sur les serveurs.
