Parker Crane was forced by his own mother, of all people, to have an identity crisis, to call himself 'Marilyn' and dress like a girl, to murder people in a black wedding gown. I mean, first off, what in the actual bollocks, but also, just that's so incredibly rough. He had voices in his head, most of which belonged to his mother, so in life and in death he was mad; going, going, gone. 

He didn't want to kill Josh's wife. He didn't want to hurt anyone; he never did. All he wanted, as he said, was to be alive again. His mother forced him to do all of that. Now, that isn't to say that he didn't enjoy it once he got started. He just didn't want to start it in the first place. 

I guess what I'm trying to say is that this movie was so utterly terrifying, not because a ghost jumped out here and there with loud bursts of music to accompany, but because even through all of the sadistic and twisted things that he did, through all of the pain and terror and death inflicted upon everything and everyone, Parker Crane was still shown as a dynamic character with both good and bad qualities. No one was rooting for him the whole time(I hope), but he definitely earned a little sympathy from the audience. 

There was a line from Parker Crane(through Josh, of course) to Renai in which he said(and this is paraphrased) "You wasted so much of your life being afraid of the dead, when really you never knew what you had. You should have enjoyed it while you were here, because you only get a short amount of time in the sun and then you die." That line just gave me so many chills. 

And, of course, there was that scene in which all of those dead bodies were under sheets in the church pews... On that, just a huge round of applause to the producer of that movie, because I have never seen a more terrifying scene than that, and there wasn't a single jump scare the whole time they were in there. I just, bravo.
