“I don't wanna go” The toddler's voice was soft and held no heat as her mother dressed her in some frilly gown. Her legs felt cold but Viola knew better than to fight back. Her words were enough to warrant a firm hand across the face that sent her to the floor. “You have no choice Viola.”She was told by her father as he wiped his hand on a handkerchief before tucking the cloth back into his pocket. Standing up she didn't move as her mother fussed over smoothing the clothing back down. “Don't bother trying to explain it dear. Her mind isn't all there.”
No she was all there, but arguing back never worked well in her favor. Her cheek started to itch as the hit deepened a bruise she already had on her jaw. Ignoring the pain she walked from the room to grab up a limp and almost dead stuffed doll, her only toy from her infancy. The doll stared up at her with listless eyes as she bounced it slightly, playing for a brief moment to try and bring a smile to her face. It worked briefly, just long enough for her brother to come in and smack her back.
Wincing she followed after him, the family leaving their home to visit their new neighbors. The Goodwins were always good neighbors. Hiding in the back of the group she gripped the doll tightly as her mother introduced them, gushing over her husband and son and giving her the brief mention of 'my daughter'. No name...things don't get names. Waiting for the conversation to pick up again she slipped away from them, while young she had practice in disappearing from her families sight for her own safety. Finding an empty room she tucked herself into a corner and went back to playing with her doll, making it dance in front of her. Someone's eyes were on her, but she ignored it since they'd ignore her soon enough.
