Ayodhya Man Kidnaps Woman’s 4-Year-Old Son After Marriage Rejection — Arrested in Lucknow
In a disturbing incident highlighting rising cases of online obsession and emotional manipulation, a 24-year-old man from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a four-year-old boy after the child’s mother refused his marriage proposal.
The accused, identified as Sudhakar Singh, a local flower seller, was apprehended from Lucknow railway station while attempting to flee on the Suhaildev Express with the kidnapped child, police confirmed on Wednesday.
A Friendship Turned Fatal Obsession
According to the investigation, Singh had been in contact with the boy’s mother through social media for nearly a year. Over time, his admiration allegedly turned into an unhealthy obsession. When the woman declined his repeated marriage proposals, Singh began issuing threats — warning her that he would “take away her son” if she refused to marry him.
The situation escalated on October 12, when the child, who was playing outside his Amar Colony residence in Lucknow, disappeared without a trace. A PCR call was made immediately to Amar Colony Police Station, reporting the abduction.
How the Crime Unfolded
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari revealed that the child’s father first noticed Singh near their home around 1 p.m. on the day of the incident. Before he could confront him, Singh fled the area. A few hours later, at around 4:30 p.m., the boy’s mother realized her son was missing and suspected Singh’s involvement.
Police quickly registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched a multi-level operation using technical surveillance, CCTV footage, and manual intelligence to track the suspect’s movements.
Within eight hours, the police team intercepted Singh at Lucknow railway station, rescuing the child safely before the accused could board the train to Ayodhya.
Confession and Motive
During interrogation, Singh reportedly confessed that he kidnapped the child to emotionally blackmail the woman into marrying him. “He wanted to use the boy’s safety as leverage to pressure the mother,” a senior police officer said.
Officials also revealed that Singh had been stalking the woman online and had visited Lucknow multiple times in the past month to convince her. His rejection led him to commit the crime “out of revenge and frustration.”
Police Commend Swift Action
The child was safely reunited with his family within hours of the abduction. The Lucknow Police have been praised for their quick response and effective coordination between local and railway authorities.
“This case shows how technology and teamwork can prevent a potential tragedy. The accused will face strict action under kidnapping and criminal intimidation laws,” said DCP Hemant Tiwari.
A Growing Concern: Digital Obsession and Stalking
The case once again underlines the growing threat of online predatory behavior. Experts warn that social media relationships can sometimes spiral into manipulation, especially when emotional boundaries are blurred. Police have urged the public to exercise caution while interacting online and report any threats immediately.
