a nice bystander, seeing my obvious noob status with the selfie, offered to take a nicer fmaily photo for us. Â
and we all had put shirts on over our bib numbers. Â oh well. Â the boys are now big enough that the idea of the number is not the highlight of the activity (which is also nice). Â
Child1 had a good race. Â We started too far back in the pack, so the first km was a constant fight to pass walkers and make progress through the crowd. Â In fact, we did not stop passing walkers until about the 2km mark, which was surprising to me. Â They conveners did a very bad job marking expected times at the start line.
Child1 set pace and i followed him the whole race. Â we had a pretty slow and irritating 6:40 first split, and then dropped to a fairly stead 5:30 ish for the middle three kms. Â The final km was closer to 5:10, so it was a decent speed. Â I expected this to be the race that he was faster than me (I have not been training), but it was not. Â I might have another year or two on him yet. Â
Also, as a road race, I noticed how horrible the surface of the roads were. Â I also twisted my ankle pretty nicely around the 3km mark. Â It started to get quite sore around 4.5km but I was pleased that I had a decent jog. Â I have these delusions that I could run 4:30 splits if I were motivated to be fast... Â
