(Theres probably something like this mentioned already but since I can't find anything like it I'll mention it here). Some rival gang leader figured Mondo would end up going soft after he went to Hopes Peak. The guy ends up taking Ishimaru and Chihiro hostage as proof/leverage. Because the guy apparently forgot how Mondo reacts when his friends are hurt. Needless to say it does not end well for the rival. Or most of the bones in his body. (ack. can't word stuff properly...)
