Did you know that chickens like to cuddle? Neither did I before this little sweetheart came into my life. Your eyes do not deceive you, she is indeed falling asleep with her head on my shoulder. She breaks my heart. She spends all day being a chicken with the big girls but at dusk she finds me. Back when I first got chickens, I thought they were the most fascinating things. I would sit and watch them, listen to their sounds, laugh at them chasing each other with bugs, and watch their personalities. Now they're just chickens, they're absorbed and lumped in as another normal part of every day, hectic life. I remind myself to sit with my chickens, to appreciate those everyday things that have lost that fresh and exciting vibe; the way they coo when I pet them, the way they follow me through the garden, eating bugs to produce eggs for us. They're a reminder to appreciate so much more, and that we're so fortunate to be where we are in life, that we own our home, we own our cars, we've learned how to be healthy and consider what we eat. Everyday things get overlooked and aren't appreciated the same way as when they were "new." Today I sat with my chickens. I witnessed, patiently, Zelda pop out an egg. I looked at my promising garden bed, and I worked on clearing it up knowing what it will bring me soon. I appreciated what surrounded me.
