Hey, I heard you were letting people talk about their DND characters here, so Iâd like to introduce mine: Aoi Mistbrooke, a human lurker in the deep warlock! (Fun fact: the tattoo appeared after she made the pact, and her eyes went from brown to blue)
She grew up in a small fishing village that became a bit more dangerous over time because of thieves and rogues. For years there were rumors going around the village about a mysterious artifact located somewhere in the waters around the town. Some thought it would give you the ability to breathe underwater, or had a djinni locked inside, or would even let you communicate directly with the gods. The only problem was nobody was sure it existed because nobody could find it.
One day when she was 15, Aoi decided to go swimming on a small, hidden beach behind her house, but after a while a big storm came in. The water got too rough and she couldnât get back up to the surface. She sees something glowing below her and, hoping itâs the artifact, swims towards it. Surprise! Itâs not an artifact at all, itâs a portal with a tendril coming out of it and dragging her in. Obviously sheâs terrified because she thinks sheâs gonna die, but when she goes through the portal she realizes she can breathe again.
This is when she meets Athothlo, a giant, powerful primordial sea monster and her soon-to-be patron.
Athothlo reveals to Aoi that her town is actually built on top of an ancient civilization that used to worship him as a god, but was destroyed thousands of years ago. The place Aoi was swimming in was once a temple dedicated to him, and the only place where he could have at least a little influence. After the civilization fell apart and the last of his warlocks died, he lost his connection to the material plane.....that is, until Aoi came along.
She felt horrible for him. Heâd been alone for thousands of years, with nobody to talk to. She kind of knew what he was going throughâ ever since things started getting more dangerous in the town, she felt isolated from everyone. People rarely went out to town and almost never invited people into their homes out of fear of being robbed or worse. The only company she had were her busy parents. She wished she didnât have to be so afraid all the time.
After hearing this, Athothlo offered Aoi a dealâ in exchange for protection and guidance, she would act as his eyes into the material plane, reporting everything she sees to him. Sheâs 21 now and has been faithfully serving him, and the two have developed a strong father/daughter bond. Sorry this got kinda long ishsjnsjns
aaaaahhh that's such a cool deal, and aoi's eye color changing to reflect the bargain is *chef's kiss*!! we love seeing a familial bond grow from a magic one :'))
